I make absolutely no claims of being a master griller, or even a good griller, but I can at least call myself a partially competent griller. I can turn on the grill and make sure the food is cooked through and even, make sure it isn’t burned to a crisp.
That counts for something right?
Well, anyway, I can tell you that these burgers were mighty delicious. If I do say so myself.
Bacon Barbecue Burgers
- 1 pound (80/20) ground beef
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, plus extra for topping
- 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 8 slices bacon, cooked until crisp
- 4 ciabatta rolls or other hearty roll, lightly buttered
- Toppings: sliced tomatoes, and thinly sliced red onion
Directions: Preheat a grill to medium high heat. Divide the meat into four equal portions and shape into patties. Use your thumb to press a shallow well into each burger, this will help prevent the burgers from cooking into a little burger ball. Drizzle olive oil over the patties and sprinkle with salt and pepper, repeat with the second side. Once the grill is preheated place the oiled patties onto the grill, cover and cook for 4-5 minutes. Flip the burgers and baste with the barbecue sauce, cover and cook for another 4 minutes. Place a slice of cheese over each patty, cover and cook another 1 minute until the cheese is melted.
During the final stage of grilling, toss the lightly buttered rolls on the grill to toast. Remove the buns and the burgers to a platter and prepare your topings. Build your burgers with the toasted ciabatta, a burger, sliced tomato, red onion, bacon, and an extra drizzle of barbecue sauce. Place the top bun and enjoy!
Here is all you need for these flavorful burgers.
Use your thumb to make a well into the center of each burger patty. This helps prevent the burgers from cooking up into little footballs on the grill.
Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle generously with salt and pepper. Don’t forget to do that same to the other side.
Toss those pretty burgers on a hot hot grill. Sizzle sizzle!
Cook for 4-5 minutes, flip, baste with barbecue sauce and cook another 4 minutes. I like to baste the burgers only once so the barbecue sauce does not overwhelm me.
After 4 minutes top those cuties with the cheese and cook for another minute until melty and glorious.
During the last few minutes of grilling toss the buttered buns on the grill to lightly toast.
Time to build your burgers! I probably would have been better off finding smaller buns for my little burgers, but I love bread so I was not about to complain. Don’t forget an extra drizzle of barbecue sauce for good measure.
Fresh tomatoes must make an appearance, duh!
Thinly sliced red onions…
And BACON!!! Mmmmmm yes please and thank you! I have no qualms firing up the grill for these bad boys.
Happy Monday my friends!
