Baked potatoes, such a simple and easily forgotten little dish, but totally underestimated!
A baked potato is a wonderful blank slate that can be topped with a never ending variety of toppings. That is what makes these taters so wonderful!
Sometimes you just need a little butter, salt, and pepper. Other times you need cheese, bacon, green onions, broccoli, steak, a fine wine, and a foot massage.
Is that just me?
Here are the simple and easy to remember instructions for a perfectly baked potato every time!
Perfect Baked Potato
- Russet potatoes
- Vegetable oil
- Kosher salt
Directions: Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Scrub the potatoes under cold water and dry off the excess water with a towel. Prick the potatoes all over with a fork or knife to allow steam to escape. Drizzle the potatoes with vegetable oil and rub to coat the skin evenly with oil, place the potatoes on a foil lined baking sheet and sprinkle with kosher salt. Bake the potatoes for 45-60 minutes depending on their size. Begin testing the potatoes at 45 minutes. When the potatoes are fork tender, remove them from the oven, slice open, top with whatever your heart desires and enjoy!
There are very few recipes that are easier than a good ol’ baked potato.
Scrub-a-dub-dub those little potateeos (poe-tay-tea-ohs) and dry them off well.
Prick the potatoes with a knife or a fork all over so the steam can escape.
You don’t want any exploding taters!
Drizzle a bit of vegetable oil over each potato, a little goes a long way.
Rub the oil all over the potatoes.
Sprinkle the potatoes with kosher salt and bake the potatoes in a preheated 425 degree oven for 45-60 minutes. These taters took about 55 minutes.
Perfectly fork tender, delightful!
My mama taught me how to properly eat a baked potato…
First, cut a cross into the potato…
Pinch the ends to gloriously squish open the piping hot potato while simultaneously squealing “Ow, ow, ow! Hot!”
I got a little zealous with the squishing of this potato, normally it would be much more attractive.
I know, a baked potato isn’t known for its presence at a beauty pageant.
Like I said earlier, sometimes all you need is a pat of butter to top your potato. Other times you need bacon, a donut, and the kitchen sink.
Baked potatoes are a fantastic, easy, and cheap option to fill out your meal. Delicious!
